Updates & Announcements

September 2026 update
September 1, 2026 [Link]

✨ Highlights

  • Added simple custom lists to your Profile page, with sharable URLs
Unlike Watchlist sections (they're exclusive buckets of things you'll want to watch under specific conditions), movies can belong to multiple thematic lists and won't disappear from the main view. You can mix in TV series, too.
  • Added genre affinity and taste profile stats to the header of your Profile page
  • Supported 50 free streaming services like BBC iPlayer, Rai Play, ABC iview, Tubi, Pluto TV etc.
If your profile was set to the correct region, they're already enabled for you. Full coverage will require a couple of weeks.
  • Added six genres: Time Travel, Zombie, Superhero, Survival, Sports, and Martial Arts
These tags are curated by users, so some titles might still show up if you filter them from discovery.
  • Redesigned /@username/recommend pages with useful filters and a field to attach individual notes
To combat spam, only people who follow you back will be able to actually read personal notes. Also added a convenient Recommend To shortcut under the rating buttons on individual movie pages, so you don't have to hunt down the correct ID anymore.
  • Added a plain text importer to the playlist's sidebar
Paste whatever you've got, clean it up with the prompt on the page, and it'll try to match every line.

🛠️ Algorithm Tweaks

  • Tuned sorting/discovery scores to lean harder on your favorite genres and visuals
This makes the biggest difference on unreleased titles, where the machine learning model doesn't have much data to work with.
  • Made recommendations react to your ratings instantly, instead of waiting for the hourly model refresh

🛠️ Page Improvements

  • Added an Include short films (duration < 40 minutes) toggle to the movies discovery queue
  • Optimized the layout and navigation of key pages on mobile
Playlist cards, for example, now open a panel that slides up from the bottom and is way less cluttered.
  • Made the popularity filter in the discovery sidebar slide freely and show exactly how many titles it's allowing
  • Improved dynamic search results with a marked Hidden checkbox and a Manage redirect
  • Added a 🔒 button next to every tag filter (positive or negative) in the discovery sidebar
This way, the queue will remember between sessions that you are in a Comedy mood or that you really don't like Horror.
  • Implemented advanced caching to speed up pages with very large collections, up to 8x
  • Rebalanced the Top Actors leaderboard so it's no longer three quarters men 🤷‍♂️
  • Sorted the contents of franchise pages by chronological release order instead of average rating
  • Moved theatrical releases into their own In Theaters section, so your watchlist is only what you can actually watch tonight
  • Added a new badge that awards profile XP for every calendar month you stop by
Your past visits were calculated based on your reviews and watchlist, so don't be surprised if your level jumped.
Also added a +10% XP profile achievement for accessing the site once through the mobile PWA.

🛠️ Bug Fixes

  • Fixed rating something with a Rewatch flag kicking it out of custom sections and resetting its priority
  • Fixed dragging a review into place on your profile also sending titles marked Rewatch flying around in your watchlist
  • Fixed entries from custom sections landing either at the top or bottom of the watchlist when mixed with the main view
  • Fixed direct searches landing on empty sections when clicking on movies that are still in theaters
  • Fixed obscure titles with good ratings from their fanbase outranking classics on Explore by Tag rankings
  • Fixed streaming availability defaulting to US instead of your own country in case your profile was incomplete
  • Fixed titles marked Hidden never getting a streaming alert on your personal Feed
  • Fixed a hundred more minor but annoying glitches not worth mentioning

August 2026 extras!
August 15, 2026 [Link]

We've had one, yes. But what about second August 2026 update?
— Pippin

✨ Highlights

  • Patched the slowdowns and error pages that kept hitting the site throughout July and early August
If you're from Singapore or Hong Kong, you might soon be blocked from accessing ReelsGraph without a VPN. I'm genuinely sorry for this, but botnets originating from your region capable of bypassing Cloudflare defenses are becoming way too difficult to deal with.
  • Supported 8 new languages and expanded streaming availability to 13 more countries
Pick yours from the flag menu up top. Localized titles, descriptions, and Explore by Tag combinations have been updated.

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

  • Ensured most imported titles we can't find right away will show up on the site within 24 hours
Some exports, like Letterboxd and MyAnimeList, don't carry a TMDB ID, which means less-known movies and series we don't already have in the database must be linked first. Basically, if something doesn't get picked up immediately, try again the next day.
  • Added single-genre Explore by Tag pages, that don't require pairing a genre with something else
  • Reworked the Top Franchises and Top Developers rankings so they reward production quality over popularity
  • Split the Reset Status Tags rollback option on the Settings page into two separate buttons
You can now reset all Watching and Will Watch Again flags without worrying about hidden entries becoming visible on your profile.
  • Added "Still Watching?" prompts when you rate movies or series that are marked Watching
  • Added your privacy-hidden activity back to your own Feed, with clear indicators on the lines nobody else can read
  • Published two new entries to the FAQ page
  • Replaced Microsoft's analytics with our own, running on our server
Nothing goes to third parties anymore, and the privacy policy has been updated accordingly.
  • Fixed the and buttons in the watchlist needing two clicks to open if you'd named a section with punctuation
Only a handful of you were affected, but nobody had reported it. Please don't tell me you just quietly started double-clicking.
  • Fixed upcoming movie releases being buried in live search previews
  • Fixed the navbar menus closing on you when you moved the mouse toward them 🤬

August 2026 update
August 2, 2026 [Link]

✨ Highlights

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

  • Expanded the Top X rankings and Explore by Tag pages to 200 entries
  • Added original language and streaming service combos to the Explore by Tag page
  • Improved how directors, franchises and actors are ranked in search results
  • Improved imports so that titles that aren't already in the catalog now get looked up and added on the spot
  • Cleaned up search and discovery, which had quietly filled up with hundreds of thousands of obscure titles nobody has ever rated
Our quality filter was based on a popularity score that TMDB rebalanced from under us in July.
  • Fixed ML scores being slightly higher than intended for TV series compared to movies
As a consequence, (good) series were dominating the Most Loved rankings and probably the first page of your playlist.
  • Fixed titles marked Rewatch sinking too low in the watchlist
  • Fixed ~25,000 foreign movies still not showing their original title anywhere
  • Fixed the In Theaters tag showing up on some films that left cinemas decades ago
  • Fixed localized titles not showing up in a bunch of places they should have (ranked lists, search results, etc.)
  • Fixed a glitch where your Watchlist scores could drop to near-zero for a minute or two during cache updates

July 2026 update
July 9, 2026 [Link]

✨ Highlights

  • Redesigned the Followers page, which now also shows who you're following
Also: made follower lists public and clickable from profiles. The list of users you are following is still private.

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

  • Activated the monthly newsletter for users who have enabled it from the Settings page
  • Improved original language detection for both movies and shows
Titles with incomplete metadata now get it right more often, and English films made by overseas studios don't get flagged incorrectly.
  • Set an exception for the Show localized titles toggle: movies and shows produced in your own language are always localized
  • Broadened the popularity slider so every notch now includes more titles (~7,700 movies with default values)
  • Addressed the recency bias that rewards new releases and returning series
Every title's average rating now eases in over its first year and settles as it ages.
  • Refined many UI elements that didn't look quite right on mobile resolutions
  • Published a new entry to the FAQ page
  • Fixed titles sinking in popularity because of repeated discovery skips from guest accounts
  • Fixed your own language sometimes going missing from the discovery language filter
  • Fixed imports from Trakt, Simkl, MyAnimeList, and TMDB failing to match obscure titles with low popularity

Beta 4
June 23, 2026 [Link]

✨ Highlights

  • Retuned the discovery queue so it leans on well-known titles until your taste profile is stable
  • Reworked the 'Include anime (JP)' discovery filter into a broader 'Include animation'
You can still enable the Japanese original language filter if you want to filter for anime specifically.
  • Locked down the server against malicious bots and aggressive scrapers
I suspect these were only round 1 and 2, but for now performance should be better and the slowdowns are gone.
Sorry if you had to click a box. To give you an idea of what was happening, check this 15-minutes chart from Cloudflare.

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

  • Extended 95% of the website's functionality to unregistered users
Your friends can now immediately follow you and send/receive recommendations while on guest accounts.
  • Redesigned the discovery page so that everything important is visible on page load
  • Added the watchlist toggles (watching now, TV series, in theaters, rewatch...) to Party Mode views
  • Added a watchlist source filter to the Party Mode sidebar
So you can show titles that are on any of your group's watchlists (the default), only on yours, or on every member's.
  • Added a "watched X/Y" counter to /actors, /directors, and /franchises pages
  • Improved the actors pages so each title now shows the role they played, along with the character's name
  • Reranked the top directors and franchises pages by total number of reviews
  • Moved the discovery sliders (popularity and release date) to the sidebar, below the other filters
  • Clarified the step-by-step instructions for importing your ratings from external sites
  • Added a checkmark next to watchlist entries available on streaming services you're subscribed to
  • Optimized cover loading on ranked lists, profiles, and search pages so they feel a lot snappier
  • Fixed brand-new releases riding early hype to the top of the rankings
A title's score now eases in over its first year as its rating settles, so the charts reflect how it actually holds up.
  • Fixed imported "watched" movies sometimes vanishing into thin air
They were added retroactively where possible. Please check your watchlist to confirm.
  • Fixed untracked TV series still generating feed events and calendar entries
  • Fixed the discovery queue getting stuck on an endless loading spinner after using the browser's Back button
  • Fixed imports skipping films with ambiguous release year (festival preview vs official release)
  • Fixed Party Mode filters resetting your sidebar dropdown choices every time you used them
  • Fixed search so single-character titles like '9' and 'X' can finally be found
  • Fixed the release decade chart and its filter arrows cutting off at the 1970s

Beta 3
June 18, 2026 [Link]

✨ Highlights

  • Adjusted the rating scale based on how people actually use ratings
Some of the words were way off, so we have a new Hated to Loved scale and most labels shifted by one notch.
Note: for sorting/recommendation purposes, the underlying values haven't changed. I will likely allow custom labels in a future update.
  • Added an Include anime (JP) toggle to the discovery sidebar, separate from Include foreign movies
  • Added a watchlist widget that rounds up new episodes from the series you've either reviewed or marked Watching
It's on a dedicated page on mobile. And yes, there are rollback options in case you fatfinger something.
  • Reworked the popularity and release date sliders so they now filter out titles entirely (discovery queue only)
They used to assign score multipliers, which is still how the Watchlist is sorted.

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

  • Removed the experimental Trust the algorithm slider from discovery sorting
The new defaults should work well for everyone, but I'll consider reintroducing it for power users once things are stable.
  • Made the Back button on mobile close the menu or any open sidebar before leaving the page
  • Added decade grouping to profile reviews, so you can browse and filter by 1990s, 2000s etc.
  • Changed Party Mode to display movies and series in anyone's watchlist by default
  • Improved how accurately 18+ titles get flagged, so more adults-only content stays out of discovery by default
  • Published a new entry to the FAQ page
  • Fixed TV shows getting quietly skipped when importing from Criticker, IMDb, Trakt, or TMDB
  • Fixed Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+ going missing from the streaming filters in several regions
  • Fixed Party Mode showing no results or wrong watchlist labels for some users
  • Fixed new profile pictures not showing up after uploading them

Beta 2
June 13, 2026 [Link]

✨ Highlights

  • Extended the import functionality to TV Time, Simkl, MyAnimeList, TMDB, and Criticker
Note: some titles from MyAnimeList won't match, because we're relying on third-party mapping to TMDB.
  • Added a Streaming Services section to the Settings page
New Feed alerts, on by default, will let you know when a movie or series you're tracking lands on one of the services you subscribe to.
  • Added original language and streaming service filters to the Explore by Tag page
So you can dig up the best crime movies on Prime Video or the best Korean thrillers, not just genre pairs.

🛠️ Fixes and Improvements

  • Enabled the FAQ page, similar to GamesGraph's, with 15 initial entries
  • Tuned how we calculate review scores for lesser-known movies
So films with only a few hundred ratings no longer get nudged toward a bland average and can finally look terrible again.
  • Added convenient Add to Watchlist buttons next to live search previews and rankings
  • Added new-trailer Feed events (with a Watch link) for movies in your watchlist and series you're following
  • Added writer credits to movie and series pages, shown right before the director
  • Fleshed out actor pages with a proper bio, birth and death dates, birthplace, and a link to their IMDb profile
  • Improved screenshots so clicking one opens it full-screen right on the page (with tap/click to dismiss)
  • Redesigned the search results page with cleaner cards and a more compact header section
  • Retuned the Most Polarizing ranking so it shows genuinely divisive films most people have actually seen
  • Added maturity ratings (preferring regional ones, with fallback to US) next to the runtime on movie pages
  • Added a little flag next to foreign movies and series, with the original title on hover
  • Added Bluesky and Letterboxd fields to user profiles
  • Optimized how pages load by delaying background art and off-screen covers
  • Fixed the watchlist sidebar sometimes displaying incorrect counters for "TV Series" and "In theaters"
  • Fixed the GDPR data export so it doesn't include game-shaped leftovers from GamesGraph
  • Fixed minor issues with the display and ordering of search results
